Kratom is also known by its scientific name Mitragyna Speciosa is a tropical tree in the coffee family that is native Southeast Asia. The plant Mitragyna Speciosa was discovered by Dutch settlers in the 1800s. Kratom quickly became a source of energy and endurance after its discovery. Kratom’s active ingredient, Mitragynine, is found in its leaves. The native would chew on the leaves on long hikes through the jungles of Thailand. The natives would traditionally chew on the leaves as a quick way to reap the benefits of the plant. They discovered that the leaves could be dried and grounded into a fine powder to make a tea. Kratom quickly became used as a traditional medicine since the nineteenth century by people in Southeast Asia.
